Gearlist for Buckskin Gulch/Paria Canyon
The Gossamer Gear crew is headed out for some desert adventures in Buckskin Gulch and Paria River. Buckskin Gulch lies in southern Utah and is part of Escalante Grand Stair Case National Monument in Utah and the Bureau of Land Management’s Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness. It is the longest and deepest slot canyon in the American Southwest and perhaps the world.
I’m not much of a gear list kind of gal, but am trying to think more deliberately about how I pack for trips. As part of my carless in Denver initiative, I’m taking the bus to the airport, which means schelepping around a second bag is just impractical (even though I’m flying Southwest so my bag is free). Here is a list of the gear I’m bringing, along with the justification for why something is coming along.
Conditions: Sunny in the 70s with lows of 30s at night. No chance of precipitation. We will expect to be slogging in water and mud all day. Water sources will be silty. Lots of sun in Paria Canyon, little sun in the deep canyon of Buckskin.
